Bluebells are one of the most glorious sights, a true sign that Spring is here and Winter is behind us.
One of our favourite places to find bluebells is at Ashridge Estate in the Chiltern Hills. This 5000-acre estate, owned and maintained by the National Trust, is the perfect setting for a weekend stroll and is home to vast beech and oak woodlands and chalk downlands.
There are numerous trails and pathways here, perfect for an adventure on foot or by bicycle. Turn left after the visitor centre and follow the signs along the wide path towards the pretty buttercup and heather meadow (a perfect spot for lunch).
First you will be greeted by small clusters of bluebells in amongst the long grass. But as you venture further into the woodlands, you will suddenly be met with that heady, familiar scent and the most extraordinary carpet of violet-blue flowers.
If Ashridge is too far away, why not find a bluebell wood in your area.
