Stoneware Pourer Tenmoku
Glazed stoneware clay milk pourer, produced at the renowned Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall.
Made using clay sourced from nearby St Agnes and hand thrown in the Leach workshop.
Following a visit to the pottery last year, we were keen to add a range of these beautiful handmade mugs, pourers and egg cups to our store. We love the depth of colour and the tactile marks left by the maker's touch, signs that can only found on a truly hand crafted item.
The Tenmoku glaze is a deep black finish, breaking to red-brown where the glaze is thinner. The colour is the result of iron in the clay permeating the surface when fired.
Stoneware is hardwearing and should last a lifetime if treated with care. This item is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Leach Standard Ware pottery is thrown on the wheel by the latest generation of production potters and apprentices, based at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall.
The Leach is widely considered to be the birthplace of British studio pottery. Bernard Leach founded the pottery in 1920 with Japanese potter Shoji Hamada.
Following Bernard Leach's death in 1979, the Leach Pottery was handed over to the Bernard Leach Trust, which manages a museum dedicated to his legacy; as well as a working pottery producing a new range of standard ware and training a new generation of studio potters.
