Why Choose a British-Made Sheepskin Hot Water Bottle?

British-made products offer more than just quality — they represent traceable sourcing, traditional artisan skills, and ethical production.

Sheepskin: An Eco-Friendly Choice for Natural Warmth and Sustainable Living

Our sheepskins are by-products of the food industry. Owen Barry work closely with a specialist Leather Working Group-certified tannery. The Leather Working Group is a not-for-profit organisation focused on the environmental impact of leather manufacturing.

Wool is part of the natural carbon cycle. Even if it does reach landfill, wool breaks down in just 3-4 months and acts like a fertiliser by slowly releasing valuable nutrients and carbon back into the soil.

Sheepskin vs Synthetic: The Best Material for Hot Water Bottles and Draught Excluders

Sheepskin is naturally insulating, breathable, and incredibly soft, making it the perfect material for hot water bottles and draught excluders. Its wool fibres retain heat efficiently, keeping you warmer for longer, while allowing air to circulate to prevent overheating.

In contrast, synthetic covers like fleece or acrylic often trap heat and moisture, which can feel uncomfortable. Synthetic materials tend to have lower durability, poorer temperature regulation, and a higher environmental impact due to their production methods and non-biodegradable nature.

in contrast, sheepskin is renewable, biodegradable, and sustainably sourced, making it an eco-friendly and practical choice for a cosy home.

How to Care for Your Sheepskin Hot Water Bottle and Draught Excluder

Sheepskin is a naturally hard-wearing material and with a little care, can last a lifetime.

Sheepskin & leather does not benefit from dry cleaning because whilst the cleaning process might remove dirt and grime, this process also removes some of the natural oils that soften the skin. Instead, regular brushing, vacuuming and shaking is recommended. For spot cleaning, use a mild warm soap or colour free gentle shampoo solution and rinse with clear cold water. Towel dry.

Do not comb the curly sheepskin as this will cause it to become frizzy.

How to Use Your Sheepskin Hot Water Bottle for Maximum Comfort and Warmth

Do not use boiling water, fill to two thirds capacity maximum.

When not in use remove from cover, drain and remove stopper. Store out of sunlight. Periodically check the bottle and stopper for wear and damage prior to use.
